#3) New Zealand vs Australia – 488 Runs, 2018
Now and then, the game reminds us that it is a team sport, and individual brilliance cannot always outsmart the opposition. A similar instance occurred in the Trans-Tasman series between Australia and New Zealand, where Australia emerged victorious despite conceding over 240 runs.
Opting to bat first in their Auckland backyard, New Zealand relied on the stupendous century of Martin Guptill. The player scored 105 runs from 54 deliveries and received excellent support from Colin Munro, who added 76 runs from 33 deliveries. However, the other batsmen failed to capitalize on the openers’ strong start, managing to add only 23 runs in the last two overs, setting a target of 244 runs.
Chasing this challenging target, Australia ensured they were never out of the chase. David Warner and Chris Lynn built a magnificent century partnership, scoring 121 runs in just 50 deliveries. Even after the partnership was broken, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch continued to fire on all cylinders, securing the chase with seven deliveries to spare. Maxwell and Finch scored 36 runs each from 14 deliveries to chase the target with ease.
