MMA is a sport in which the fighters compete in a cage and beat each other up, but there is always respect for one another. In many of the post-fight scenes, we can also see the fighters hugging each other. However, there have been moments in the UFC where fighters were seen completely disrespecting their opponent during and after the match. These kinds of moments definitely disappoint MMA fans and become the topic of discussion after an event. In this article, we will tell you about the most disrespectful moments in UFC history.
Ronda Rousey refused the handshake
If your opponent was wicked with taunts before the fight or you feel that the judges made an unfair decision, a fighter can be a sore loser inside the octagon, but being a bad winner is a totally different matter, and in fact, it is the worst. When you take your revenge, you can let the hatred go away, but Ronda Rousey showed very bad behavior at UFC 168. Ronda faced her most bitter opponent, Miesha Tate, the fighter who relentlessly taunted her and her trainer Edmund Tarverdyan for months before the fight. Ronda got her revenge by dominating her opponent in the third round. After the fight was over, Miesha tried to end the grudge by shaking Rousey’s hand and acknowledging her.
However, Rousey completely ignored her in order to celebrate with her. Later, Ronda explained that Tate was only playing a good athlete in front of the camera and would never otherwise have shaken her hand. But it would have been good if Ronda was a more compassionate athlete instead of being disrespectful towards a tough rival.
Bisping spit at his opponent’s corner
Heading into a bout with Michael Bisping at UFC 127, Jorge Rivera decided to make this fight personal and recorded a series of videos taunting Bisping on everything from his fighting style to his family background and even his British accent. Bisping was burning like a flame before coming into the fight, and he took all his frustration out by defeating his opponent in the first round before striking him with an illegal knee. Bisping was deducted a point, and even though Rivera chose to continue the fight, it was clear that he was not going to recover.
It came as no surprise when Bisping finished him off with several punches in the second round, but what Michael did next was shocking. He not only taunted Rivera by saying “Go home, loser”, but he also spit on Rivera’s cornerman because he thought that he was also involved in the videos. This display of disrespect made Bisping one of the most hated fighters in the entire UFC, a position he largely embraced.
Baroni’s wild laugh
Phil Baroni has earned a lot of fans and haters during his early Zuffa period. His knockout of Dave Mayne at UFC 39 and his subsequent brag on camera wildly are still one of the highlight reel moments of all time. However, Baroni was respectful to his opponent, at least inside the cage. But this too changed at UFC 37, when he faced Russian kickboxer Amar Suloev. During the first round, Amar landed an illegal knee that nearly took Baroni out of the fight, but he made a comeback and finished off Suloev with a series of punches.
Apparently, Suloev’s behavior enraged Baroni, who picked a small American flag from his corner and began waving it at the Russian team and mocking them before leaning over the fallen Suloev. Baroni even went to laugh like wild hyenas, which made them furious. Laughing at a fallen opponent is definitely taboo in anyone’s mind, so this was certainly Baroni’s most disrespectful moment.
Silva playing bongos
When Thiago Silva faced Brandon Vera at UFC 125, it seemed that this fight would be a tough one, but unfortunately, this did not prove to be the case for Vera, as the stronger Silva dominated all three rounds, leaving Vera with a broken nose so badly that it looked like a beak after the fight was over. The lowest point of the match was in the third round, when Silva showed a moment of disrespect. Vera was pinned down and trapped , unable to escape. Silva landed some big punches from behind, changed his strategy, and played the bongos on Vera’s back.
The audience found this moment hilarious , it lasted for a few seconds, after which Silva began hitting Vera over the head with his fists. But this moment was very disrespectful and was made worse when it was later revealed that Silva had failed a post-fight drug test for anabolic steroids.
Daley’s post-fight punch
Paul Daley faced Josh Koscheck at UFC 113; both were the two biggest bad boys in the UFC at that time. Despite having been promised a shootout, Koshcheck decided to play it smart and used his grappling style to hold Daley down for the full three rounds but never let him land a clean strike. As the clock ticked down, Koscheck—known for his extravagant talk—apparently said something to Daley when the buzzer rang. Before the referee could intervene, Paul landed a powerful punch on Koscheck, and he was knocked out celebrating.
This moment horrified everyone, and it is one of the biggest disrespectful moments in UFC history. The only thing Daley received after this fight was a pink slip, as Dana White released him immediately from the promotion, and he has never returned since then.
