Toni Kroos, one of Real Madrid’s most iconic midfielders, has hinted at a potential return to the club that defined much of his illustrious career. Although the German maestro retired from professional football earlier this year, he made it clear during a recent podcast episode that his ties to the Spanish giants remain as strong as ever.
Toni Kroos Teases Potential Return to Real Madrid: “The Door is Never Closed”
Speaking on Einfach mal Luppen, the podcast he co-hosts with his brother Felix, Kroos reflected on his decade-long tenure at Real Madrid with a mix of pride and sentimentality.
“The meaning of Real will always be the same for me,” he said.
“It was a long, great, successful, and also loving time with Real Madrid. I will always defend Real, I will always be on Real’s side. That won’t change—the relationship is simply too close.”
Kroos bowed out of football at the peak of his powers. His final match, a Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, marked his 465th appearance for the club and added yet another feather to his cap: his fifth Champions League title.
Over ten seasons in Madrid, the German orchestrated the midfield with elegance, winning 22 major trophies and cementing his legacy as one of the club’s all-time greats.
Despite his deep affection for the club, Kroos is taking a measured approach to any future involvement.
“To appear now in the public environment of the club? The first thing I would say is no, no matter how close I feel to the club,” he admitted.
“But I’m not saying I’ll never have anything to do with Real again. The door is never closed.”
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who shares a close bond with Kroos, has already expressed his hope for a reunion.
When asked about Kroos’ retirement, the Italian quipped, “We are waiting for you to change your mind.”
While the 34-year-old has yet to reconsider his playing career, Ancelotti’s words underline the respect and admiration Kroos commands within the club.
Off the pitch, Kroos remains an active observer of Real Madrid’s fortunes. He recently voiced his support for former teammate Vinicius Junior, who finished as the Ballon d’Or runner-up to Rodri this year, hailing the Brazilian star as “the best” on social media.
As Kroos focuses on personal projects and adjusts to life after football, his enduring connection to Real Madrid is undeniable. Whether as a coach, ambassador, or advisor, it seems only a matter of time before the German legend finds his way back to the Bernabeu—on his own terms.
For now, Madridistas can take comfort in knowing that, in Kroos’ own words, “The relationship with Real will always remain.”
