Interim UFC Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has recently revealed who, according to him, is the promotion’s GOAT. UFC has produced several extremely talented MMA fighters who have contributed to making the Brand no. 1 over the years. While many have suggested several names for the GOAT title, the one name that came up multiple times is Georges St-Pierre.
Aspinall was initially confused between Silva and GSP
The Canadian fighter has had an impressive career as he won 26 of his 28 bouts. GSP has achieved this incredible feat in a span of 15 years. His striking abilities and sharpness were exceptional and this is the reason Aspinall admires the former fighter a lot. Recently, in an interview with Carl Froch on YouTube, Aspinall revealed that his all-time favorite fighter is Georges St-Pierre.
However, Aspinall was initially confused between Anderson Silva and St-Pierre. But one major difference between the two made Aspinall clear about who is the GOAT. Aspinall stated that he loves “The Spider” a lot, but he was failing a lot of drug tests, so he doesn’t like that. “Once someone starts failing drug tests that’s a red flag in my mind,” said Aspinall.
Dana White calls Jones the GOAT
Aspinall might have edged GSP, but for UFC President Dana White, there is another fighter who he thinks is the GOAT. It is Jon Jones, whom Aspinall recently called out after his win at UFC 304. White recently stated that the kind of dominance “Bones” has shown inside the Octagon is laudable. Especially, staying at the same level for such a long time deserves even more praise. Joe Rogan also agreed with White’s comment and stated that the amount of banned substances found in Jones’ system was very little.
However, Asapinall will not be too happy with these comments. For a long time, Aspinall has been trying to fight Jones for the heavyweight championship. But “Bones” showed no interest in making the match official. This led to Aspinall being frustrated and after defeating Curtis Blaydes recently at UFC 304, he called out Jones again for a fight and to settle the debate about who rules the division. Now it will be interesting to see if Jones agrees to fight Aspinall after his clash with Stipe Miocic.
