However, the standout moment came when Mushfiquer Rahim struck the winning runs in the 41st over, sealing the series triumph for Bangladesh.
After the conclusion of the fixture, the Bangladesh team took a different way to celebrate their win with Mushfiqur Rahim doing a symbolic gesture. Rahim’s playful recreation of Angelo Mathew’s helmet malfunction incident sparked laughter among teammates and reignited fire between both teams.
What was Time-Out Controversy that took place during the ODI World Cup 2023?
The timed-out controversy that happened during the 2023 World Cup clash between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is still alive in the minds of players & fans. Back in the ODI World Cup during an encounter between Bangladesh & Sri lanka, Angelo Matthews faced a timed-out dismissal after failing to reach the pitch on time during the match. According to the timed-out rule, a batter must return to the pitch within three minutes of dismissal and prepare for the next delivery.
Although Matthews did enter the ground, he experienced helmet issues and had to leave the field to change it. This process exceeded the allotted time, prompting the Bangladesh captain to appeal. Following the rules, the umpire ruled Matthews out due to timing out, resulting in his departure from the field without facing a single delivery.
After the conclusion of the ODI series, both Sri Lanka & Bangladesh are geared up for a two-match Test series beginning on March 22. The series will see the return of Wanindu Hasaranga who came out of Test retirement for the much-anticipated Test series.
