New Zealand, batting first, posted their highest T20I total at this ground, thanks to half-centuries from Rachin Ravindra (68) and Devon Conway (63).
Finn Allen’s early cameo (32) and late contributions from Mark Chapman (18) and Glenn Phillips (19) further bolstered the score.
While Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, and Josh Inglis picked up a wicket each, the Australian bowling attack struggled to contain the Kiwi onslaught, conceding heavily throughout the innings.
In response, Australia’s chase began wobbly. Travis Head (24) and David Warner (32) provided a decent start, utilizing the Powerplay effectively, but both fell victim to their aggressive intent.
Glenn Maxwell’s (25) cameo kept the chase alive, but it was Mitchell Marsh’s fifty (72) and his crucial partnership with Jos Inglish (20) that brought Australia within touching distance.

Tim David has been in superb form for Australia in final overs
With 16 runs required off the final over, all eyes were on Tim David. The big-hitting all-rounder did not disappoint, smashing Tim Southee for a boundary and a six, including the match-winning four off the last ball, sparking jubilation in the Australian camp.
Southee, despite conceding the winning runs, bowled an excellent final over, giving only 4 runs in first 4 balls. However, his efforts were in vain as David’s late pyrotechnics sealed the deal for Australia.
While defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow for New Zealand, they fought valiantly throughout the match. Their impressive batting performance was matched by disciplined bowling spells from Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner, but ultimately, David’s heroics proved too much to overcome.
