UFC middleweight fighter Khamzat Chimaev wants to take the title from current champion Dricus Du Plessis. Khamzat is still undefeated in the UFC and is set to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. Initially the two were scheduled to face each other on June 23, but the Russian fighter suffered a health issue that forced him to pull out of the bout. Now he is again set to take on Whittaker and the winner of this fight will become the number one contender for the middleweight title. Ahead of their high-profile match, “Borz” is already targeting Dricus Du Plessis.
Chimaev wants to capture the middleweight title
Speaking about the middleweight champion recently, Chimaev started a war of words that was absolutely scathing. “We need to get the title back for normal people, man. This g** who has the belt man, not normal,” said Chimaev. It is a well-known fact that Dricus’ fighting style is unconventional, but there is no confirmation about his homosexual status.
Chimaev has been in great form lately. In his last three fights, “Borz” has defeated fighters like Gilbert Burns, Kevin Holland and Kamaru Usman. On the other hand, Whittaker has made a great comeback in the UFC. After nearly being eliminated after losing a match against “Stillknocks,” Whittaker recorded consecutive wins against Paulo Costa and Ikram Aliskerov. These victories have put him back in the title race, while Sean Strickland has fallen behind.
Whittaker is confident of getting the title shot
Recently speaking about the pressure he is feeling for his upcoming matchup, “The Reaper” said there is no pressure. In an interview with Submission Radio, Whittaker looked confident of defeating Khamzat and getting the title shot ahead of Sean Strickland. According to reports, Du Plessis’ next opponent could be Strickland, but nothing is being confirmed by UFC CEO Dana White as of now. Meanwhile, apart from the three-way fight for the middleweight title, another entrance appears to be coming and it is the UFC Light Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. Following Du Plessis’ win over Adesanya, the Brazilian hinted at a middleweight fight with “Stillknocks.”

However, initially it seemed that “Poatan” was not serious about going down to middleweight. But recently, Pereira has made it clear that he would definitely like to move down to middleweight and face the current champion, Dricus Du Plessis. Thus, the middleweight title scenario is becoming complicated. It remains to be seen how the situation will be solved by the promotion.
