WWE has entered a new era under the leadership of Triple H. Everything seems to be going well for the Stamford-based company, but one area where things could get better is the women’s division. At WrestleMania 40, there were only three women’s matches and none of them were main events. Women often main events Raw and SmackDown, such as when Bayley recently took on Naomi or the latest battle royal on Raw, where Becky Lynch won the Women’s World title that was vacated by injured Rhea Ripley.
The Company needs to introduce more women titles
The company has a great women’s roster in both blue and red brands, but they only have two titles to fight for in singles competition. Becky is the current champion on Raw and Bayley is the WWE women’s champion on SmackDown. Many people have raised the opinion that there is a need for a mid-card title for women. WWE legend The Undertaker himself has agreed on this. He said, “The division is deep. I would like to see a Women’s Intercontinental Champion and possibly because there are two brands, a Women’s US Champion.”
A mid-card women’s championship isn’t an idea that cannot be executed. Even the AEW has one in the TBS championship, which Jade Cargill won during her run there. Although she wasn’t booked well with the title, it helped make Chris Statlander, Julia Hart and Willow Nightingale into stars and now Mercedes Mone will be fighting for it against Nightingale.
WWE is creating a title for NXT
WWE is actually already in the process of creating a mid-card women’s title, not for RAW or SmackDown, but for NXT. A few weeks ago, at NXT Stand & Deliver, their General Manager, Ava, announced the formation of the “Women’s North America Championship.” Before this, WWE veteran and current NXT commentator Booker T brought up the idea of titles for the main roster on his Hall of Fame Podcast and said that a lot of women have left NXT and they went to the main roster. They want a little bit more as far as playing for everybody.
