In 2020, WrestleMania 36 was the last time WWE legend Undertaker competed in a wrestling match and decided to retire. Even though the match was completely without spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Undertaker finally thought about retiring in a cinematic-style match with AJ Styles. “The Phenom” was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022 and since then he has been appearing in several podcasts and interviews. While Undertaker has made it clear that he will not return to his in-ring career, he still feels that a match could make him rethink his decision.
The Undertaker is ready for this rematch
And the match is the famous Brothers of Destruction vs. Degeneration-X match at Crown Jewel in 2018. In this match, The Undertaker teamed up with his kayfabe brother Kane to face Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Also, “The Heartbreak Kid” had come out of his retirement after WrestleMania 26, only to embarrass him in front of the overseas audience. The match was bizarre, as all four wrestlers were unable to put up a good match and made several botches. The match had a 0.69 rating on Cageside.com, which is the lowest rating recorded in the respective wrestlers’ careers.
The encounter left a sour taste as Triple H tore his breastbone and other wrestlers were seen struggling to breathe during the match. Recently speaking to Kane on the Six Feet Under podcast, Undertaker recalled the horrific match and said that a rematch against DX could be the only thing that could bring him out of retirement.
“You would think with all the experience that was involved in that match we could have done that in our sleep. That may be the only match if we did again that I would come out of retirement for. Just to see if we can do it better than we did before. A man lost his pec, a man lost his pride, a man lost his mask,” said the Undertaker.
Kane’s opinions differ from The Undertaker’s
However, Kane, while sharing his opinion about the match, stated that after that disastrous performance, he felt he should never do that match again. While Kane’s views may differ from The Undertaker, the truth is that no one is coming for a rematch. Triple H will never compete in the wrestling ring again, as he suffered a heart attack two years ago. Kane has been out of the wrestling ring for the last five years and it doesn’t seem like he would have any interest in getting back into the wrestling ring. On the other hand, Shawn Michaels is currently leading NXT and he too would not have any interest in a wrestling match. Talking about Undertaker, he is currently 59 years old and fighting in a wrestling match wouldn’t be a wise decision.
