WWE has finally released the much-awaited “WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain” documentary, which is based on the events of WrestleMania 40. Fans were eager to see how the big change happened and who was responsible for all this chaos. Things went off track when it was announced that The Rock would take on Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Championship, but it was the Final Boss himself who brought things back on track.
The Rock regretted for upsetting Cody’s fans
During the documentary, The Rock expressed regret for upsetting a portion of the WWE fan base by replacing Cody in the match against Roman Reigns. He and Triple H believed that the Roman Reigns vs. The Rock match was what the fans wanted and Reigns said it was nice to finally deliver something that had been talked about for years. But when Cody’s fans began to oppose this decision and made their displeasure public on social media and in arenas, The Rock changed things.
The fans’ reactions were quite vocal, leading to a rethink of new plans for the show. But it was The Rock who first took steps to make things right. The Hollywood star revealed he called Triple H, Nick Khan and Ari Emanuel and said they could push through with a new main event. The Rock stated that he thought there was a better way. Even if it was a segment, he didn’t like that the fans were upset and that bugged him too.
“It’s not the way I’ve operated my whole career and I don’t like it, and I knew that the choice, essentially, was mine. It was either we work on this and make this main event, or we don’t. I went with the latter and told those guys, ‘Here’s what I believe we should do.”
The Rock pitched interesting ideas for WrestleMania later
The Rock then said that he pitched the idea that they turn the main event back to Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and let Cody finish his story. Eventually, he also pitched the idea that he becomes the Final Boss, which is one of the best heels in the history of wrestling.
Triple H stated that everyone should work things out. The documentary shows The Rock’s genuine concern for fans and his desire to make things right. The original plan for WrestleMania 40 was Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk and Cody vs. Roman. But Punk got injured and there was an opportunity to include Seth Rollins and The Rock said that he and Brian Gewirtz came up with the idea of the tag match. The Rock’s efforts to make amends are greatly highlighted in the documentary.
