Recently, Tennis player Grigor Dimitrov performed a mental exercise in which he tried to combine the traits of legendary tennis players like Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer to create what he thought would be the perfect player.
Dimitrov was tasked with creating the ultimate tennis player using the skills of current players as building blocks in a video that the ATP Tour posted on social media. The Bulgarian started with Roger Federer’s forehand because it never seemed to falter under pressure during their matches.
He stated, “I’ll go with Roger’s forehand. When he had to miss it against me, he never did. Many players, in my opinion, have missed shots against me, but not him.”
Then, adding his choice to the huge range of options the renowned Japanese player generates on that wing, Dimitrov decided to use Kei Nishikori’s double-handed backhand. He declared, “Backhand – Kei Nishikori. He is capable of hitting everything from that wing, including backhand crosses, lobs, lines, passes through the middle, curves, and anything else.”
Tennis player Grigor Dimitrov gets candid:
The Bulgarian continued, “Serve, Nick Kyrgios is my choice. To generate any kind of serve… really amazing.” Then, choosing Novak Djokovic, Dimitrov answered, “Return – Novak. No matter how quickly the ball comes, he is always able to put it on the court.”
When offered the option to select a slice, the former World No. 3 chose for himself. He said, “I’ll choose myself on the slice, the Bulgarian responded. I really enjoy playing it because it was one of my first shots that I ever learned how to do.”
The ideal player, according to Dimitrov, must be as tenacious as former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt. After expressing that, he added, “Lleyton Hewitt, his competitive nature is pretty amazing.”
They had complete control over their respective conflicts with Grigor Dimitrov. Seven times throughout their rivalry, Roger Federer prevailed against the Bulgarian. Meanwhile, in 11 of their 12 meetings, the Serb prevailed over him.
In the opening two games between the two, Novak Djokovic prevailed. But the Bulgarian eventually turned the tables on him at the 2013 Monte Carlo Masters, winning a thrilling three-set match in the second round. The Serbs kept playing and won their following nine games with ease.
