Selection Done for T20 World Cup by BCCI but Concern Remain Alive for Fans
The selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 Indian team has been made, and many were hopeful that some big names would not be included. However, some unexpected things have happened. For instance, Rishabh Pant has been included in the team despite not playing any cricket for almost a year and a half, apart from the IPL.
While he has been performing well in the IPL, being directly included in the World Cup team is surprising. On the other hand, Rinku Singh, who has been consistently playing for the Indian team for the past 12 months and delivering excellent performances, did not find a place in the squad.
When it comes to the fast bowling department of the Indian team, it seems that there will be three main fast bowlers: Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah, with Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube likely to fulfill the fourth bowler’s role.
In the spin department, it seems that Yuzvendra Chahal will be playing, along with Ravindra Jadeja, who has also been included in the team. However, the Indian team’s bowling seems to lack confidence in their own bowlers, as there is no solid bowling foundation.
The entire bowling strategy seems to be based on backup plans. Can we expect Mohammed Siraj or Arshdeep Singh to perform consistently well? This remains a question in everyone’s mind. Bumrah has the advantage of possessing various skills; he can bowl bouncers, yorkers, slower balls, and length deliveries, which can trouble the batsmen in any over of the game.
What to Expect from Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh?
On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj’s performance has been inconsistent, especially in challenging conditions. He might get some swing initially, but he hasn’t shown the same effectiveness in IPL matches. Arshdeep Singh, on the other hand, is a good bowler, but he struggles to maintain accuracy under pressure.
The biggest challenge for him could be bowling alongside Bumrah. It’s confirmed that Bumrah will be the main bowler, meaning Siraj and Arshdeep will have to focus on containing runs from the other end.
This will create pressure on both bowlers, and if they don’t handle it well, they might end up conceding runs. Therefore, it will be the plan of all teams playing against India to attack Siraj and Arshdeep, and for this, these two bowlers need to be prepared.
Bumrah Doesn’t Concede Runs, Is it a Win for Indian Bowling Attack?
A big question is whether if Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t concede runs from his end and bowls well around, does it mean that the Indian team will bowl well or win the match? The answer is no. You must have seen in IPL 2024 that even though Jasprit Bumrah has bowled well, Mumbai Indians have still struggled consistently.
So, good bowling from Bumrah doesn’t necessarily mean that your entire bowling lineup has become strong. However, it can be said that if Bumrah gets support from another fast bowler, then the Indian bowling unit might appear stronger, and the other big issue is that everyone knows that runs can be easily scored off other bowlers.
It won’t be a big deal for batsmen to dominate them. Can the bowlers handle that kind of pressure? Sometimes, if you spend too much in the first two overs, you save in the comeback overs, but what happens then is that the batsmen take advantage of it, and here, can we expect Indian bowlers to take wickets when they are under pressure to save runs?
We have seen the trend of IPL 2024 that whenever Indian bowlers concede runs, they try to save runs, experiment with different variations, but it doesn’t benefit them. Batsmen also know that the bowler is trying to save runs, so they attack more.
