Swansea vs West Brom: Preview
Swansea form analysis
The Swans has endured mixed form recently, with two wins, two losses, and a draw over their last five matches across all competitions. Their most recent result was a 2-2 away draw against Coventry City on December 30th, where they took an early lead through Liam Walsh before seeing that lead erased by two Coventry goals. Luke Cullen pulled one back late to rescue a point for Swansea. This follows a very poor 5-0 thrashing away to Southampton on December 26th. Prior to that was a 2-1 home win over Preston North End on December 23rd, with goals from Jamie Paterson securing the victory after Preston had equalized.
Swansea lost 2-1 at home to Middlesbrough on December 16th despite Jay Lowe getting them on the board. Their form was ended by a 1-1 away draw to Stoke City on December 13th, where defender Harry Darling scored late to cancel out Stoke’s lead. While Swansea has shown ability to score goals in patches with talent like Paterson, Lowe, and Walsh, they have struggled defensively during this recent run. Conceding five to Southampton and losing at home to Middlesbrough indicate larger issues at the back. If Swansea hopes to turn their form around and challenge the top half of the table, defensive improvements will be paramount.
West Brom form analysis
West Bromwich Albion has found strong recent form, going undefeated over their last four matches across all competitions with three wins and a draw. Their most recent result was a gritty 1-0 home victory over Leeds United on December 30th courtesy of a 37th minute strike from Grady Diangana. This follows a 1-0 home win over Norwich City on December 26th with Brandon Thomas-Asante scoring the winner. Prior to that was a narrow 1-0 loss away to Middlesbrough on December 23rd.
West Brom’s undefeated run began with a 1-1 draw at home against Stoke City on December 17th where Thomas-Asante equalized after falling behind early. The last win before that was a 2-0 victory away at Rotherham United on December 13th with second half goals from Diangana and John Wallace. So while the goals haven’t necessarily flowed freely, West Brom has done well to grind out wins and avoid defeat. Thomas-Asante and Diangana have provided moments of magic while the defense, aside from the Middlesbrough loss, has held firm. If the experienced squad can continue tightening things up at the back while relying on their clinical attackers, West Brom could challenge for promotion.
