On September 22, Suryakumar Yadav played for Team India during the opening ODI against Australia in Mohali, Punjab. A few questions about the great batter’s selection in India’s ODI World Cup squad were raised due to his dismal performance in the 50-over format.
However, the head coach, Rahul Dravid, showed up for a pre-game press conference and promised to support him in this ongoing series. So, when he entered the field to bat, all eyes were on him. However, Suryakumar did not let them down, scoring 50 runs off 49 balls, including five fours and one six. Fans expressed their opinions on social media after witnessing such a strong knock.
Rahul Dravid declared prior to the first ODI: “We completely back Suryakumar Yadav, we believe he will turn it around in ODI, and he will be getting opportunity in the first 2 ODI.” For him, it was a much-needed inning because, prior to the game, he had been having trouble with his ODI form. Currently, he has 587 runs, including three fifty-plus scores, in 26 ODI innings.

Speaking about the game, Team India was four down for 185 runs in 32.3 overs when Suryakumar Yadav stepped out to bat. Then, for the fifth wicket, he and Rahul put up a partnership of 80 runs. Without playing many of his fancy shots, the top batter delivered a cool-headed strike. Suryakumar claimed after the game that he tried to calm himself down and bat deeply.
He confessed, “That’s what I was daydreaming about when I first started using this style, he claimed. In order to win the game for the team, try to bat as long as you can. I was unable to do that today, but I am enjoying my new position. What has been going on, I’ve been wondering. The ball is the same shade of colour. The groups are identical. They are the same bowlers. I believe I was a little hurried. I reasoned that we should take our time. I’ll attempt to remain calm, move slowly, and bat deeply.”
