Former India Captain, Suresh Raina praised Captain Rohit Sharma for his great leadership skills & the ability to get the best out of youngsters by providing them good opportunities to prove their prowess. With several injuries to star players in the ongoing India vs England Test series, Rohit led the team to an unassailable 3-1 lead against the Bazball team. Thanks to his brilliant captaincy & decision to give a chance to deserving youngsters who have a hunger to score runs & prove their mettle.
Despite the absence of Virat Kohli throughout the series & occasional absence of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jaspirt Bumrah Rohit has managed to guide India to an unassailable lead in the series. In an interview with Times of India, Suresh Raina hailed Rohit Sharma & said that he has similar leadership skills as MS Dhoni.
“He is the next MS Dhoni. He has done well. He has been giving a lot of chances to youngsters the way MS Dhoni did. I played a lot of cricket under MS Dhoni. Sourav Ganguly supported his team a lot. Then MS Dhoni came and led from the front. Rohit is going in the right direction. He is a brilliant captain,” said Raina.
MS Dhoni is regarded as India’s most successful Captain with 178 wins in 332 matches across formats including three iCC titles in his kitty. Meanwhile, Rohit has been in his best form with 84 wins in 114 matches & an incredible win percentage of 73.68. He recently led India to the 2023 World Cup final at home and to a drawn Test series in South Africa.

Suresh Raina continued to applaud Captain Rohit Sharma by saying that he manages players well by rotating them & reducing the risk of injuries.
Raina further said Rohit Sharma has remarkable planning abilities, highlighting his consistent support for young talents. He noted Rohit’s unique strategy in player rotation and contrasted it with previous years’ approaches. Raina commended Rohit’s adept management of fast bowlers, citing past injury issues. He also applauded Rohit’s skill in handling the pressure of captaincy, especially in India’s cricketing scene, where spinners used to dominate.
Raina emphasized that the way he is grooming fast bowlers is exceptional. He brought two fast bowlers with Siraj & Bumrah. Then he managed Bumrah’s workload by resting him for the fourth Test & bringing in debutant Akash Deep. This balance of new & experienced players is a job that Rohit as a leader is doing exceptionally.
Notably, India has taken a 3-1 lead in the series by winning the Ranchi Test by 5 wickets. They will now aim to end the series on a winning note by winning the fifth Test.
