Superlek Kiatmuu9 will defend his ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Title against kickboxing veteran Takeru Segawa in the main event of 165. The promotion’s highly anticipated return to Japan was initially scheduled to headline a kickboxing contest between Rodtang Jitmuangnon and the three-division K-1 world champion, but the former has been forced to take a break due to injury. Promotion’s CEO, Chatri Sityodtong, revealed this news and posted a revised poster of the stars who will headline the event on January 28.
The World Champion will look to make a stellar start in 2024
Superlek was in deep preparation for his second assignment as divisional champ against Elias Mahmoudi on Friday, January 12, at One Fight Night 18. Unfortunately, the work was interrupted by an injury to “The Sniper.” However, now “The Kicking Machine” has the chance to square off with the Japanese martial artist, Segawa. Superlek is coming into this bout to start 2024 off on the heels of another stellar year on the global stage of the ONE Championship.
Superlek was really impressive last year
Last year, on January 14, Kiatmoo9 defended his Flyweight Kickboxing world championship against the Spanish fighter Daniel Puertas Gallardo at ONE Fight Night 6. The 28-year-old continued his stellar performance by knocking out Daniel Williams at ONE Fight Night 8 on March 25, 2023. Since then, he has claimed two highlight-reel victories over Nabil Anane and Tagir Khalilov. He finished 2023 with a 5-0 record, surpassing Rodtang in his historic clash at ONE Friday Fights 34 in Bangkok.
Takeru is one of the strongest kickboxers in today’s generation
Superlek has proven time and again that no task is too difficult for someone who lives and breathes martial arts. The Japanese kickboxer Takeru will definitely get tough competition in his contest against Kiatmuu9 at ONE 165 in Tokyo, Japan. But he is highly regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound kickboxers today and is accustomed to facing the biggest names of this generation.

The 32-year-old will need to create a solid game plan to eliminate any threats that his Thai opponent possesses. If Takeru can defeat Superlek, it’s likely that a new ONE World Champion will be crowned at Ariake Arena on January 28.
