This year’s SummerSlam was stacked with several exciting matchups. The PLE kicked off with the match that had the most drama, which was Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Title. For Mami, it was an opportunity to win the title she never lost and get revenge on Morgan for injuring her and stealing her man while she was away. It turns out, Morgan’s attempts were successful and Rhea got betrayed.
Mysterio changed his side
Currently, Rhea Ripley is the face of the women’s division in WWE and a much bigger star than Morgan. The match needed an interesting storyline, but Mami’s shoulder injury was meant to level the playing field. This added an intimidation factor when she used the announce table to get back in. Morgan eventually resorted to a steel chair to end the match, but she was stopped and instead Ripley took the chair and lifted it above her head, almost going to hit Liv.
Mysterio took the chair away from Ripley, telling her that this way she cannot win the title as the match will be instantly over and Morgan will retain the title by disqualification. However, this was the point where things started turning. While Ripley was distracted, Morgan hit her finisher, but that wasn’t enough for her to pin Mami. Mysterio sneaked in the chair while helping Rhea by the ropes and then went off to distract the referee. Morgan took advantage of this and hit her finisher once more, this time being successful.
Ripley was left heartbroken by the betrayal
The wry smile on Mysterio’s face as he stepped off the apron proved that he intentionally did it and his actions just movements later proved it beyond a shadow of doubt. Dominik helped Morgan get up from the floor on the ramp and kissed her, while Rhea just watched all this from inside the ring, all shocked and stunned. Mysterio and Morgan left together with the fans, booing him for the heartbreak he gave Mami.
Finn Balor also betrayed Damian Priest
While Dominik and Morgan were leaving the ramp, Michael Cole was speaking the words of every Ripley fan on the commentary angrily, as he was just as disappointed by this betrayal as the WWE fans. On the other hand, Damian Priest, who faced Gunther for his world title defense match, got betrayed by Finn Balor. During the match, when Priest hit a chokeslam to Guther and went for the pinfall, Balor stepped in and put Gunther’s leg on the rope. Eventually the “Ring General” got the win and he became the new World champion. The Judgement Day is completely shattered now, with Rhea and Damian getting betrayed by their companions.
