UFC’s Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has started the trash talks as UFC 299 approaches. He will be facing Marlon Vera as his first title defense opponent. Sean O’Malley vs. Chito Vera will take place on March 9 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. The first fight between the two took place three years ago, where “Chito” emerged the winner as he scored the win against “Sugar” by TKO in the first round. But O’Malley argued that the defeat was a fluke and did not recognize it as a defeat. There has been bickering and banter between these bantamweights since their first throwdown and it always seemed like a rematch would happen someday.
Chito Vero took to X on January 1, 2024 and tweeted: “Last 13 miles of the year done. Thankful for the health I have, the rest I go and get it. Seam O’Malley responded to this tweet and wrote: “ain’t gettin shit but an a** whooping.”
O’Malley is on a great winning streak
Sean O’Malley has been on a steady rise since his loss to Marlon Vera. It is the only defeat “Sugar” has suffered in his professional MMA career till now. The Bantamweight champion is on a five-fight winning streak since the UFC 252 loss on August 16, 2020. He has defeated fighters like Thomas Almeida, Kris Moutinho, and Raulian Paiva by knockouts and TKO. He received a no contest against Pedro Munhoz after suffering an accidental eye poke during the UFC 276 bout.
Sugar will look to avenge his lone loss
Sean O’Malley then defeated Petr Yan via Split decision at UFC 280 on October 22, 2022. After this, “Sugar” faced Aljamain Sterling last year at UFC 292 and defeated him by TKO in the second round to capture the Bantamweight title. Now he is going to make his first title defense and will also look to avenge his sole loss against Vera.
If we talk about “Chito,”he has suffered only two losses since 2020 after defeating Sean. His one loss came against Jose Aldo and another against Dominick Cruz. Vera’s last fight was against Pedro Munhoz on August 19, 2023, at UFC 292, where he scored the victory via unanimous decision.
