Stuttgart vs FC Augsburg: Preview
Stuttgart form analysis
VfB Stuttgart came into this run of fixtures after a major managerial change, with new boss Sebastian Hoeneß taking over the strugglers. In the match on November 11th, Stuttgart secured an impressive 2-1 home win over Borussia Dortmund thanks to Undav’s leveler and a late Guirassy penalty. This momentum carried into their next match as Stuttgart won 1-2 away at Eintracht Frankfurt on November 25th, with two clinical Undav goals sealing victory after falling briefly behind. Stuttgart made it three wins in a row by beating Werder Bremen 2-0 at home on December 2nd courtesy of another Undav goal and a Guirassy penalty.
However, their winning run came to an end after an entertaining 1-1 home draw against Bayer Leverkusen on December 10th, with Führich’s opener canceled out by rising star Wirtz. Most recently away at Bayern Munich, Stuttgart reverted to type by losing 0-3 with Kane’s double and defender Kim’s strike sealing a comfortable home win. Overall, Stuttgart have looked far more competitive under Sebastian Hoeneß, built on a formidable front two of new signing Undav and target man Guirassy. However, defensive issues remain and they still face an uphill battle to push for Europe.
FC Augsburg form analysis
Augsburg came into this run of fixtures looking to build on an impressive start to the campaign. However, they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Hoffenheim on November 11th despite Demirović’s equalizer. Augsburg then faced a tough away trip to Union Berlin on November 25th and were unfortunate to only come away with a 1-1 draw after taking a shock first half lead through Demirović’s penalty before conceding late to Volland. Augsburg bounced back with an excellent 2-1 home win over high-flying Eintracht Frankfurt on December 4th, racing to a 2-0 lead through goals from Jensen and Iago before surviving a late Frankfurt fightback.
However, struggles on the road returned in a 0-2 loss at Werder Bremen on December 9th, unable to respond after conceding twice before half time. Most recently back at home against Dortmund on December 16th, Augsburg claimed a credible 1-1 draw thanks to Demirović’s early opener before conceding to Malen. Overall, Augsburg’s home form has underpinned a very solid start to the campaign. However, improving their road performances could be vital in avoiding getting dragged into a relegation battle in the second half of the season.
