Gambhir and Sreesanth controversy: The Legends League Cricket 2023 Eliminator game between Gujarat Giants and India Capitals on Thursday, December 07, was marred by controversy as former India cricketers Gautam Gambhir and S. Sreesanth got into a heated argument during the game. The incident occurred following the conclusion of Sreesanth’s sixth over of the first innings.
The right-arm seamer gave up 20 runs in his first two overs and was about to resume his fielding duties when he got into an argument with a former India teammate. Following the incident, Sreesanth revealed that Gambhir referred to him as a fixer, which led to their fight. A short clip from the game has gone viral, in which a portion of a conversation between Gambhir and Sreesanth can be heard through the stump mic.
Gambhir and Sreesanth viral video:
Sreesanth can be heard saying in the viral video, “How can he say fixer?” Notably, Sreesanth was given a life ban by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for his role in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing scandal. However, in 2019, the Supreme Court reduced it to seven years, and the 40-year-old also returned to the domestic circuit after his ban expired.
Sreesanth addressed Gambhir as ‘Mr Fighter’ in another video posted shortly after the match, accusing him of disrespecting even his senior players like Virender Sehwag. His wife, Bhuvneshwari, has also come out in support of her husband, calling Gambhir’s behaviour shocking’ for stooping to this level despite playing for India with Sreesanth for many years.
Meanwhile, Gambhir has remained silent in the midst of the controversy and posted a photo of himself smiling while wearing the Indian jersey. ‘Smile when the world is all about attention!’ he captioned the post. Notably, the former India opener has made headlines for his involvement in several on-field brawls with opposing players during his playing days.
During IPL 2023 match 43, he also got into an argument with star batter Virat Kohli. So, this was all about the ace cricketers Gambhir and Sreesanth war. Also read, After war with Sreesanth, cricketer Gambhir drops sly post.
