Strasbourg vs Le Havre: Preview
Strasbourg form analysis
Le Racing put together an encouraging run of form over the past month, going unbeaten across four league games prior to a 2-1 loss against PSG last time out. It started with an excellent 2-1 away win at Lorient thanks to strikes from Bakwa and Gameiro. This was followed up by a hard fought 2-1 home victory over Lille, turning the game around after initially falling behind to secure a vital three points.
Next was a creditable 1-1 draw away at place Marseille – Sebas’ dramatic 90th minute equaliser maintaining Strasbourg’s form. They then held firm to earn a 1-1 draw at Clermont courtesy of Sahi’s opener before being pegged back. Despite ending with a 2-1 home loss to PSG, manager Patrick Vieira has added defensive stability to his counter-attacking style. Key now is transferring their stubborn resilience at home to matches on the road. If able to make that next step whilst retaining attacking flair, Strasbourg can dream of a top half push.
Le Havre form analysis
Le Havre put together an encouraging run of form over their past five games, proving tough to beat against some of Ligue 1’s big hitters. It started with an excellent 3-1 home win over Nice as striker Sabbi grabbed a brace to down their European chasing opponents. Though losing 1-0 away at Reims next game, Le Havre responded superbly with a brilliant 3-1 home victory over Lyon – Sabbi on target again alongside goals from Lloris and Opéri.
A thrilling 3-3 draw away at Lorient followed thanks to a last gasp Ayew equaliser before most recently holding Monaco to a 1-1 home draw as Fofana’s own goal earned the point. So while not always getting the victories their performances deserved, manager Luka Elsner has added an attacking threat to his disciplined defensive structure. Sabbi’s prowess upfront alongside the creativity of Opéri has made Le Havre dangerous going forward. Remaining hard to beat, if able to take more chances at the other end, Le Havre can dream of a surprise top half push.
