Stevenage vs Wycombe Wanderers: Preview
Stevenage form analysis
The Boro found a creditable 1-1 home draw against Charlton, equalizing through a last minute Blackett-Taylor penalty after Reid had put them ahead. They followed that up with an excellent 3-0 away win at Cheltenham, with List netting twice alongside Roberts’ early opener. However, Stevenage were comfortably beaten next time out at home by Oxford, going ahead through Reid before conceding three times. They did respond well though by drawing a seven goal thriller away at Bolton, with Reid again scoring twice. Most recently, Stevenage returned to winning ways by beating Wigan 1-0 at home courtesy of Pressley’s early penalty.
Overall, Stevenage have competed well, showing both attacking threat and defensive vulnerabilities. Reid has been excellent, netting 5 goals already as the main attacking focal point. Avoiding conceding soft goals is crucial, especially in turning draws into wins. The win at Cheltenham and draw at Bolton demonstrated their potential.
Wycombe Wanderers form analysis
Wycombe got an excellent 2-0 home win over Blackpool thanks to goals from Vokes and Hanlan. However, they went down 3-1 away at Charlton next time out despite Potts briefly levelling. Wycombe returned to winning ways by beating Carlisle 2-0 at home, with Vokes again on target alongside Leahy’s penalty. They did suffer late heartbreak though to lose 2-1 away at Portsmouth, going ahead through Scowen before conceding twice. Last time out, Wycombe produced their best display yet in a 1-4 thrashing of Fleetwood, inspired by a Taylor brace and other goals from Potts and Leahy.
Overall, Wycombe have adapted well to life in League One, showcasing both attacking threat and some defensive vulnerabilities. Vokes has led the line excellently, while Taylor has emerged as a real goal threat from midfield. Wycombe have an excellent chance of a top half finish in their first season back at this level. But improving concentration defensively is key after recent narrow losses.
