SL vs NZ 2nd Test: After an exciting first Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, the fans would be pretty excited to see how the second and the final Test of the series turns out to be. Hosts, Sri Lanka put in a clinical performance in the first Test and beat New Zealand by 63 runs.
They would be looking to inflict a series whitewash and seal it 2-0. On the other hand, New Zealand would look to make a fighting comeback and level the series. The second Test is scheduled to take place from 26th September to 30th September 2024. There is no question that the toss will once again be crucial to the team’s fortune in the Test match.
Here’s a look at how the two teams performed in the first Test match:
Sri Lanka Preview
Sri Lanka would be pretty pleased with how they batted in the first Test. They have found a new hero in Kamindu Mendis, who has had an outstanding start to his Test career. His century in the first innings set the tone for the win. He will be an exciting prospect to watch out for.
Kusal Mendis’ demotion has worked as well. He scored a half-century and followed it with 23 off 30 in the second innings. The veterans also got into the act in the second innings, with Karunaratne (83), Chandimal (61), and Mathews (50) making valuable contributions.
Pathum Nissanka didn’t play a big knock but his current form makes him a handy pick for your fantasy side. As with the ball, Prabath Jayasuriya wreaked havoc on a pitch which aided turn and bounce. He finished the Test match with nine wickets to his name. Ramesh Mendis also returned with six wickets as well.
New Zealand Preview
In response to Sri Lanka’s 305, New Zealand amassed 340 in the second innings. However, it was difficult to bat in the final innings and it was quite evident too. They were folded for 211, losing the game by 63 runs.
They would be pretty pleased with the batters’ performance, to be honest. Williamson and Daryl Mitchell both scored half-centuries, although, they would have been hoping to convert that into a big one.
Earlier, Latham produced an outstanding knock of 70 off 111. However, none of the batters got going apart from Rachin Ravindra, when they came to bat again.
The left-handed all-rounder kept the hopes alive with his fighting knock of 92 off 168 but it wasn’t enough. Ajaz Patel, once again, exhibited his mettle with the ball as he picked up seven wickets in the match, including a six-for. William 0Rourke was equally brilliant and picked a total of eight wickets.
Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd Match Prediction
New Zealand gave a pretty good fight with both bat and ball but fell short in the end. They are expected to come back stronger. However, Sri Lanka are now riding pretty high on confidence, with both batting and bowling working in tandem. With the momentum on their side, we are expecting the hosts to win the game and make it 2-0.
