The Sri Lanka’s squad for the New Zealand Tests has recently been announced. There hasn’t been a lot of changes to the squad. Dhanajaya de Silva has impressed as a skipper and the management has continued to put faith in him.
Pathum Nissanka notched his maiden Test century in England in the third Test and was pivotal to the Test win. He will be a player to watch out. The experiencers campaigners in Chandimal, Mathews and De Silva forms the middle-order, while Karunaratne will continue be the designated opener.
Another man to look out for will be Kamindu Mendis, who has had a sensational start to his Test career. In just six Tests, he has already hit three centuries. Oshada Fernando has also returned to the squad after quite a while. Incidentally, his last Test match was also played against New Zealand, last year.
The fast bowling will have similar faces like Asitha Fernando, Vishwa Fernando, and Lahiru Kumara to name a few. Prabhath Jayasuriya and Jeffrey Vandersay will share the spin bowling duties.

The New Zealand team will be led by Tim Southee. They have a solid batting unit, consisting of Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Will Young etc. The likes of Phillips and Michael Bracewell gives the needed depth and are also handy options in spin bowling.
In the wicket-keeping department, they have got three solid names such as Tom Latham, Tom Blundell, and Devon Conway. The fast bowling will be led by Tim Southee and Matt Henry. Ajaz Patel has continued to be their lead spinner.

Sri Lanka team are in pretty good form and are also playing at home. New Zealand, on the other hand, are filled with world class players. However, playing in spinning conditions would be a big task, altogether.
Sri Lanka team have quality spinners in their line-up and the batters too are in pretty good form. Beating New Zealand wouldn’t be easy but we would still back them to win the first Test match, keeping in mind their recent form.

Sri Lanka have a 55 percent chance of winning the match
SL vs NZ 1st Test Match Prediction
The match is scheduled to take place at Galle International Stadium. It provides a great balance between bat and ball. As compared to pacers, spinners have reaped better rewards and have a great record here.
Out of 44 Tests played here, the team batting first have won on 23 occasions. Chasing in the fourth innings would be really difficult when the spinners would be wreaking havoc with the ball.
