According to reports, Yuvraj Singh is set to take part in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and is likely to join the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and will contest the elections from the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab.
The speculations turned rife after Singh was spotted having a meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. However, neither Yuvraj Singh nor the BJP has confirmed the development.
Yuvraj Singh is one of the most celebrated cricketers across the nation. He has left a huge legacy for the young cricketer to adore and admire. The legendary cricket played pivotal roles in helping India clinch the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup.
He was adjudged the Player of the Series at the 2011 World Cup, where he scored 362 runs and picked up 15 wickets with the ball.
Notably, Bollywood actor, Sunny Deol is currently the MP of Gurdaspur. However, the centre isn’t pushing for a new candidate and thus, Yuvraj Singh’s inclusion has been making the rounds.
Navjot Singh Sidhu To Join BJP Again
Notably, the Gurdaspur constituency always has had high-profile candidates representing it. Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu is also set to make his return to BJP. He was previously part of the renowned political party before parting ways in 2017. He joined the Indian National Congress in 2017 and became one of the leaders of Congress in Punjab but failed to win the state elections in 2022.
The former cricketer is now set to make his return to the BJP, hoping to get an MP seat.
“Discussions are underway with other BJP leaders and potential candidates in anticipation of his joining, but details are being closely guarded,” Sharma who’s close to the party said.
Sidhu could contest from the Amritsar constituency for BJP if he ends up ending his ties with the Indian National Congress (INC). However, Congress functionary Raman Bakshi, recently, quashed all such claims of Sidhu going back to his previous party.
“A leader who keeps hopping from one party to another loses his charm and credibility,” he said.
Before joining politics, Naavjot Singh Sidhu became his name in the cricket world with his masterclass batting. He represented the Indian cricket team in 50 Tests and 136 ODIs, scoring 3202 and 4413 runs, respectively.
