Ahead of the opening fixture of the ODI World Cup 2023, the Captains of all 10 teams attended Captain’s meet in Ahmedabad. What grabbed the limelight of fans & media was Rohit Sharma’s savage reply to a journalist which left captains in splits in the hotel room. Journalists were present in a press conference in the hotel room to speak with the Captains who will lead the teams at the World Cup including Rohit & Babar Azam.
One of the journalists asked Rohit Sharma about his suggestion for the ICC on how to decide the winners of the final if the World sees a repeat of the 2019 final. Now you might be thinking what happened during the World Cup 2019 final? During ODI World Cup 2019 finals between England & New Zealand the scores were tied before the Super Over scores also ended up being tied. As a result, the boundary count rule decided the winner and England lifted the trophy for the first time. The rule was criticized by fans & experts as they felt that deciding the World Cup winner through boundary count didn’t make any sense.
Rohit was frustrated by the question but in typical Rohit style, he rubbished journalists’ questions. His frustration was seen in Hindi Words when he said ‘Kay Hai yaar’. But still, he kept his cool and responded that this was not his job. But his reply & reaction to the journalist’s question grabbed the attention of other captains inside the room who laughed loudly. The non-Hindi and Urdu-speaking captains on the stage did not know what happened while Babar and Shakib Al Hasan began to laugh.

Rohit Sharma, however, took other questions from the press & the hosts Ravi Shastri & Eoin Morgan. Journalists asked him how India would cope with the pressure of being the host of the World Cup. To which Rohit replied that it is difficult to get pressured but at the same time, it is also important to focus on the match and do things which is in one’s control.
On the other hand, When Pakistan’s Captain was asked about the hospitality that the Pakistan team received in India he replied that his team was surprised to see the hospitality & grand welcome Pakistan received at Hyderabad. He also said that they are looking ahead to playing & winning in India.
He further said that Pakistan’s strength is their bowling & they will benefit by playing in the same conditions as Pakistan. He also praised Hyderabad’s delicious cuisine ‘Biryani’ & hilariously said that he has been asked about its taste 100 times.
Coming to ICC men’s ODI World Cup 2023, the marquee event will begin on 5th October 2023 with New Zealand locking horns with England in the opening match of the tournament. While India will face Pakistan on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
