Cricket Australia is the path-breaker in the World of cricket as they try to introduce new norms & bring innovation in Cricket. Whether it’s about using the flip of bats to decide which team will bat first or using the spidercams to improvise the broadcast of a Cricket match, Australia has been the pioneer of change in Cricket. Cricket Australia is planning to bring a similar kind of change in BBL 13 as they are planning to bring innovations in cricket. The World of cricket will see the Electra Stumps being used in a cricket fixture.
What are Electra Stumps? How can they be helpful in Cricket?
For the unversed Electra Stumps were first introduced in WBBL 2023. But they were used for the first time in BBL 13 in a fixture between Sydney Sixers & Adelaide Strikers. Talking about the introduction of Electra Stumps, former Australian cricketer & commentator Mark Waugh said that these stumps are special gifts from fans & cricketers.
These Electra Stumps show five different colors on five different occasions that take place on the field. Each colour is different depicting different occasions. One is for dismissal, one for four & sixes, and one for no ball & change of overs. When a batter is dismissed all the stumps with three sticks will show red light & fire. In another case, if a boundary is hit the stumps will flash color shift (different colors will flash one after the other). If it’s a six then stumps will showcase colors scrolling just like how the lighting looks in Diwali.
When it’s a no ball, the colors will show red & white light & when the over is completed Electra Stumps will flash purple & blue light. While these stumps will improve the fan experience on the ground they will be quite handy for the spectators in the stands who sometimes find it difficult to track developments in the middle overs. The change of color can help some fans understand the proceedings better.
Cricket Broadcast Rules have changed a lot over time
Cricket Broadcast and coverage have come a long way. There were days when cricket was just played in whites with a red ball but Kerry Packer changed it completely by introducing coloured jerseys. The Cricket World Cup 1992 in Australia became the first big tournament that had teams wearing colored jerseys & just because it was a huge success & added more colors to the shorter formats the trends stayed.
Today Technological advancement has changed the broadcast of games to a great extent. It also helps the match to continue smoothly. It will be interesting to see what more technology has in store for cricket fans.
