Umar Nurmagomedov blasts his critics after UFC Vegas 87 win

Umar Nurmagomedov blasted critics after his unanimous win against Bekzat Almakhan at UFC Vegas 87. The event took place on March 2 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. He entered the fight after a 13-month layoff, having previously knocked out Raoni Barcelos at UFC Vegas 67. While everyone expected Umar to easily defeat a rookie opponent, AlmaKhan surprised everyone by capturing the “Young Eagle” and nearly scoring an upset in the first round with a right hook.

In his previous fights, Nurmagomedov had greatly defeated every opponent. This knockdown was the first of his career. However, Nurmagomedov quickly recovered and scored a single takedown that gave him control of the rest of the fight. Bekzat struggled for the remaining bout, losing the rest of the round to keep Umar undefeated.

Following his tremendous win, Nurmagomedov criticized critics who accused him of withdrawing from the fight. In the post-fight interview, he said, “It’s two times I pulled out because of me. Othen when Corona came, when uncle passed away, when my opponents pulled out, they were gonna count everything and say, Umar pulled out eight times. No it’s not true.”

Nurmagomedov also sought a rescheduling with Cory Sandhagen, whom he was originally scheduled to fight in August last year but had to withdraw due to injury. He said, “Right now, they said we have a date with Cory Sandhagen. Before this fight, they were talking about this. He talked about it and I think It’s going to happen.”
