The Rated R Superstar & Okada Become New AEW Champions

AEW has gained a lot of momentum in recent weeks, with the retirement of Sting generating massive buzz. Additionally, major signings of Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone. After AEW did some big business in Boston, a PPV-worthy dynamite in Toronto this week was booked that saw Kazuchuka Okada becoming the new AEW Continental Champion and Adam Copeland finally defeating Christian Cage to become AEW TNT Champion once and for all.

AEW was quick to make something massive for Okada. Within just a few weeks of debuting on Dynamite as a member of The Elite with The Young Bucks, Kazuchika is already a champion in AEW. “The Rainmaker” challenged Eddie Kingston for the AEW Continental Title in the opening match of the night. As expected from these two, it was a tight and hard-fought match, with Kingston giving everything he had to defeat his opponent. However, he failed as Okada showed his incredible skills. He put away Kingston, winning the title.

The Championship matches didn’t end there, as “The Rated R Superstar” faced AEW TNT Champion Christian Cage in an “I Quit” match in the main event of the night. Their hometown of Toronto was stunned as Adam Copeland and Cage battled around the arena, sending the crowd crazy with their stunts.

Toronto was on fire

Tables, ladders and chairs were apparently included as part of the violence. The Patriarchy interfered during the match, but Daniel Garcia and Matt Menard came out as well to stop them. The match ended with Copeland using a spiked baseball bat on Christian’s nether regions, with Cage quitting before Copeland could hit another blow to the head. It was a great ending to a Dynamite thriller. While AEW has experienced ups and downs in terms of quality, it seems like the company is now on the rise.
