In a major update, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is likely to announce the schedule of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 schedule on January 8. Various reports suggest the schedule will be announced on 8th January 2024.
For the unversed, the tournament will be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA. The big-ticket fixture between India and Pakistan is likely to be played on 9th June in New York.
The Indians will start their World Cup campaign against Ireland on 5th June. The last two group stage games will be played against the USA and Canada on 12th and 15th June 2024.
All the group stage matches will be played in the USA, while the Super 8 games will be played in the West Indies, along with the semi-finals and the final. This will be the first time the USA will be hosting an ICC tournament.
The ICC World Cup 2024 sees as many as 24 teams taking part in the competition. Teams will be divided into 4 groups of five teams each. The semi-finals of the 2024 World Cup will be played on the 26th and 27th of June, while the final is slated to be played on the 30th of June 2024.

BCCI to select India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024 based on the 1st Month performance in IPL 2024
As per recent reports, the selectors are likely to select India’s squad for the 2024 World Cup based on the performances of the players in the first month of the Indian Premier League 2024.
Prior to the World Cup 2024, India only had one T20I series to play in January 2023. The likes of Hardik Pandya and Surykumar Yadav won’t be available in that series due to injuries.
Thus, the IPL is one tournament to look out for the selectors to shortlist the players. The report also stated that veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are eager to play in the World Cup. The duo hasn’t played a single T20I game for India since the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The selectors will be keeping an eye on their performance in the upcoming IPL. For now, they have shortlisted a pool of 30-40 players to select from.
