The NBA has always had countless talented players since its beginning and some of them became legends after making an extraordinary impact. NBA history is full of great records and stats that have been created by talented players. However, there have been some phenomenal records made in a single season that are so impressive that they will never be broken. In this article, we will have a look at some of those records, which are almost impossible to break.
Alvin Robertson – 301 Steals
Alvin Robertson recorded 301 steals in the 1985–86 season, which is still an amazing feat in the NBA and no one has ever even come close to breaking it. Robertson was really a steal master, and during his career, it was very common for him to record over 200 steals in one season. In the 21st century, only Allen Iverson and Chris Paul were able to reach the 200-steal mark, but still, no one can ever reach 301 steals.
Wilt Chamberlain – 2149 Rebounds
Chamberlain already holds the record for the most rebounds in NBA history. He recorded 23,924 rebounds in his entire career and no one has broken his record. Apart from this, he is also the all-time leader in rebounds for a season. “Goliath” had many amazing seasons and one of them was the 1960–61 season, when he grabbed 2149 rebounds, which is a fantastic feat. No player has reached even 1,500 rebounds in a season since Dennis Rodman in the 1991–92 season, so Chamberlain’s record is almost impossible to break.
Michael Jordan- 12.47 Value Over Replacement Player
VORP is a statistic that measures a player’s performance and contributions compared to a replacement player. Michael Jordan recorded a VORP of 12.47 in the 1987–88 season, the year he was named MVP and Defensive Player of the Year as well. This was an epic season for MJ. The only player who came closest to Jordan is LeBron James, who had a VORP of 11.79 in the 2008–09 season. That means even LeBron, at his peak, could not overtake Jordan.
John Stockton – 14.54 Assists Per Game
The greatest passer of all time, John Stockton, has recorded 15,806 assists in his career with 3,265 steals. Both records are still unbreakable. In the 1989–90 season, Stockton averaged 14.54 assists per game, setting an all-time record. The Utah Jazz point guards took full advantage of having a teammate like Karl Malone and they formed one of the most dominant duos of that era. In the 21st century, Russell Westbrook recorded the highest average assist, which was 11.74, but behind Stockton’s record.
Stephen Curry – 402 Three-Pointers
Stephen Curry reached 400 three-pointers in the 2015-16 season. In the history of the NBA, there have been only two players to reach 300 three-pointers in a single season and they are Curry and James Harden. It doesn’t seem that anyone will cross this mark or Steph’s record.
Golden State Warriors – 73 Wins
The 2015-16 season, in which Stephen Curry recorded 402 three-pointers, was the season when the Golden State Warriors won 73 games, breaking the record of 72 wins set by Chicago Bulls in the 1995-96 season. No one ever thought this record would ever be broken, but Curry, along with his teammates like Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Bogut, Andre Iguodala and others, dominated the Western Conference from the beginning of the season to the end.
José Calderón – 98% Free Throw Percentage
This record is not highlighted very often, but it is truly one of the most impressive records in the history of the NBA, which will never be broken. Jose Calderon made 151 out of 154 free throws accurate and went to the line barely once per game in the 2008–09 season. Since then, the player who has come closest to the record was Brian Roberts, who had 94% in the 2013–14 seasons.
Mark Eaton – 456 Blocks
The big center of the Utah Jazz, Mark Eaton, recorded 456 blocks in the 1984–85 season, which is untouched to this day and will likely remain untouchable forever. Theo Ratliff once reached 307 blocks in the 2003–04 season, and since then, no player has even crossed the 300 mark. In the previous season, Jaren Jackson Jr. could only reach 177.
Wilt Chamberlain – 4,029 Points
Chamberlain scored a total of 4,029 points in the 1961–62 season, with an average of 50.4 points per game, which is an exceptional thing. The player who came closest to this record is Chamberlain himself, with 3,586 points in the 1962–63 season, followed by Michael Jordan with 3,041 points in the 1986–87 season.
Wilt Chamberlain – Played 3882 Minutes
Wilt Chamberlain played every single game of the 1961–62 season, playing a total of 3,882 minutes. This record will surely never be broken because nowadays players take frequent rest to reduce fatigue and avoid major injuries. In the 1977–78 season, Truck Robinson got the closest to Wilt by playing 3,500 minutes. In the 2021–22 season, Mikal Bridges played 2,854 minutes. Hence, no player will be able to come even close to Wilt’s record.
