Indian Captain Rohit Sharma turned heads around after becoming fourth highest run-scorer in International Cricket overtaking former India Captain Sourav Ganguly. Rohit accomplished this remarkable feat against England in the fourth Test at Rajkot when he scored a remarkable century.
Rohit ended up scoring his 11th Test century after playing a glorious knock of 131 runs in 196 balls in an innings braced with 14 fours & three sixes. His runs came at a stunning strike rate of 66.83. Moving ahead he has so far played in 470 fixtures making 18,641 runs at an average of 43.35. He has also scored 47 tons & 100 fifties for India with his best score being 264. Above Rohit, there are star players such as Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Virat Kohli (26,733) & Rahul Dravid (24,064) who have achieved this feat.
Rohit Sharma’s Supremacy in the Test format
Coming to the Test format, Rohit has so far scored 3,958 runs at an enticing average of 45.59 with 11 tons & 16 fifties in his kitty. His best score in the Test format is 212. In 262 ODIs, Rohit has managed to score 3,794 runs at an average of 31.79 & a strike rate of over 139. He has scored five centuries & 29 fifties. His best score is 121* & he is the second-highest run-scorer in T20I history & also holds the record for most centuries in the T20I format.
With his three stunning sixes, Rohit Sharma also went above legendary wicket-keeper batter & former Captain MS Dhoni to become India’s second-highest six hitter in Tests Virender Sehwag with a total of 90 sixes in their kitty. England’s captain, Ben Stokes is the highest six-hitter in Test format with 128 sixes.
What happened in the IND vs ENG Rajkot Test
Coming to the match, India won the toss & opted to bat first. Batting first India got off to a poor start with Yashasvi Jaiswal (22-1), Shubman Gill (24) & Rajat Patidar (33) getting back to the pavilion early in the innings. However, Rohit (131 off 196) & Ravindra Jadeja (110-212) did the resurrecting work for India. After Rohit’s dismissal, Sarfaraz (62 off 66) & Jadeja (110) continued India’s innings taking them to a total of 326-5. For England, Mark Wood has starred with the ball by returning with wickets of 3 for 93.
