Four teams namely, Vidarbha, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh have qualified for the Ranji Trophy 2024 Semi Finals. Vidarbha reached the semis after beating Karnataka by 127 runs in the first quarter-final match held in Nagpur. Vidarbha batted first and posted a huge score of 460 runs in the first innings. In reply, Karnataka were bowled out for just 286.
Karnataka’s bowlers bowled well to bundle out Vidharbha for 196 runs in their second essay but still, the target of 371 was too big to chase. Karnataka were bundled out for 243, thereby handing Vidarbha a 127-run win.
The second quarter-final match between Mumbai and Baroda resulted in a draw but Mumbai won it based on a first innings lead.
The third quarter-final encounter was played between Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu in Coimbatore. In reply to Saurashtra’s first-innings score of 183 runs, Tamil Nadu posted 338. Saurashtra yet again put on a disappointing performance with the bat in their second essay and were bundled out for 122.
Tamil Nadu, as a result, won the match by an innings and 33 runs.
Madhya Pradesh locked horns with Andhra in the fourth quarter-final encounter. The bowlers from both teams bowled pretty well as it turned out to be a low-scoring affair.
Madhya Pradesh batted first and managed to score 234 runs. In reply, Andhra Pradesh were bowled out for 172. MP batters once again struggled to score runs as they bundled out for 107 in their second innings.
In pursuit of a 170-run target, Andhra Pradesh fell agonizingly short of four runs. Anubhav Agarwal exhibited a match-winning spell of 6 for 52 runs in 19 overs.
Ranji Trophy 2024 Semifinals Matches, Venues
After witnessing riveting clashes in the quarter-finals, the focus now shifts to the semis. The first semi-final of the Ranji Trophy 2024 is slated to be played between Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh at Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground in Nagpur from 2nd to 6th March 2024.
On the other hand, the second semi-final is due to be played between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu at BKC Ground in Mumbai on the same dates as mentioned above.
