There comes a major update from the house of BCCI! Team India’s Head Coach, Rahul Dravid may not continue in his role. His contract expired on the day of the ICC WC 2023 Finals. Earlier there were reports that BCCI wants him to continue with the role of Head Coach. However, the loss in the ODI World Cup 2023 final changed a lot of things. As per the latest reports, Rahul Dravid is not keen on extending his tenure as India’s head Coach and current director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) VVS Laxman is set to take over.
“Laxman has expressed his keenness for the job. During the World Cup, Laxman traveled to Ahmedabad to meet the BCCI’s top bosses in this regard. He is likely to sign a long-time contract as the Team India coach, and will certainly travel with the team in that capacity for the upcoming tour of South Africa, which will be his first as the full-time India head coach,” a BCCI source told TOI
VVS Laxman to step in as India’s Head Coach
While serving as the NCA head, VVS Laxman has fulfilled the responsibility of interim head coach. He is currently in charge of the IND vs AUS T20I series. As per the reports, Laxman has expressed his desire to become India’s next head coach. During the World Cup final he had flown down to Ahmedabad to talk to the BCCI Officials about the same.
Meanwhile, Rahul Drabid was appointed as India’s Head Coach back in November 2021 for a tenure of two years. Under his coaching tenure team, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup & ICC WTC Championship. However, they failed to lift the trophy & clear the Test in the finals.
A source close to BCCI also said that Dravid had a talk with the BCCI and that he is fine with the charge of NCA as it helped him to stay in his hometown in Bengaluru. Dravid is also okay coaching the side sporadically but not as a full-time coach.
However, another BCCI source was quoted as saying that Rahul Dravid is in talks with an IPL franchise & will stay with there for a tenure of two years. Whether batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip will continue their stint or the new Head Coach will bring with him his own set of people is still unknown.
