In an exhilarating clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia defeated India in the ICC World Cup 2023 final, leaving everyone stunned by their strategic process. R Ashwin echoed his sentiments by saluting Aussies Captain Pat Cummins for a spell that changed the entire course of the match. It was Cummins who defeated Virat & Shreyas. Despite a relatively low World Cup, Cummins made a huge comeback in the finals by rattling India’s batting order. Surprised by the Aussies’ strategy, R Ashwin tried to find out the reason behind the opponents’ decision to bowl first & chase the target.
During the IND vs AUS mid-innings break Ashwin tried to find out the reason why Australia changed their strategy & bowled first. He had a conversation with George Bailey where he asked why Australia changed their decision & opted to bat first after winning the toss. And the reply which George Bailey gave was truly amusing.
What did Ashwin say about his conversation with George Bailey?
“Australia totally deceived me personally. I had a chat with George Bailey during the mid-innings, and I asked him why didn’t you guys bat first like you always does. He answered back, ‘We have played IPL & bilateral series here a lot. Red soil disintegrates but not the black soil & it gets better under lights. There is no impact of dew on red soil but black soil gives a good turn in the afternoon & then it will become concrete at night. This is our experience.’”
Ashwin’s reaction to India’s tragic loss in CWC 2023 Final
After India’s tragic loss to Australia, Ashwin took to Twitter to share his feelings. In a tweet, Ashwin acknowledged the emotional toll of the defeat stating that he suffered a mighty heartbreak after India’s loss in the ODI WC 2023 final. He made a special mention of @imVkohli @MdShami11 @ImRo45 and @Jaspritbumrah93 in his tweet applauding their hard work of two months. Later he went on to appreciate Australia by terming their performance ‘unbelievable’ & applauding them for playing the exemplary game of cricket.
India suffered a massive loss at the hands of Australia
The day of 19th November was forgetful for India as after staying unbeaten throughout the ODI World Cup 2023 they lost the summit clash of the marquee event. Sent in to bat first, India couldn’t find their rhythm & faced Australia’s fierce bowling attack. They couldn’t find boundaries & maximums & could post just 240 runs total on board.
In reply, Australia made a mockery of India’s bowling attack. Initially, they lost early wickets in the powerplay overs. But then came Travis Head (137*) & Labuschagne (53*) in the middle to handle Australia’s innings. They smashed Indians left & right & went on to chase the target within 43 overs. Their win brought huge sorrow for India who dreamt of lifting oDI World Cup after a decade.
