ICC has finally unveiled prize money for the winner of the prestigious ODI World Cup 2023. The winner of the tournament will be awarded a whopping amount of USD 4 million. The ICC has allocated $10 million for the tournament. Two million dollars have been kept aside for the runner-up of the World Cup while the losing semi-finalists can also bank on a sum of $800,000.
The other six teams who failed to qualify for the semifinals will exit from the tournament at the end of the group stages with $100,000 each. This means every team playing in the tournament will take along with them a sum assured. The winner of each league match is also assured $40,000.
Which teams are Qualified for ODI World Cup 2023
The hosts India are already qualified for the marquee event while New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa progressed on the virtue of 2020-23 ODI Super League Points. Sri Lanka & Netherlands progressed in the tournament after qualifying through the World Cup Qualifier held in June & July 2023. This World Cup follows a simple round-robin format with all teams playing against each other in a total of 45 league stage fixtures. The top four teams of the league stage will qualify for the semi-finals to be played in Mumbai on November 15 & in Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.
Meanwhile, defending Champions England & the runner of the ODI World Cup 2019, New Zealand will kick-start the ODI World Cup 2023 in two weeks’ time. India will begin their campaign against five-time champions Australia on October 8 & will then face arch-rivals Pakistan on October 14. The fixtures will be played across 46 days & 10 cities with the final to be played on November 19 in Ahmadabad.
Recently ICC took a landmark decision by offering equal prize money for both men’s & women’s tournaments laying the foundation of pay parity between both Men and women’s Cricket. This means Women’s World Cup 2025 will witness equal prize money distribution just as Men’s event.
