The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 warm up fixtures have been disclosed by the International Cricket Committee. The World Cup is set to start from October 5 with the first match being played between England and New Zealand at Ahmedabad Stadium.
All of the qualified 10 teams will play 2 warm up matches before the beginning of the World Cup. Three locations -Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and Hyderabad- have been chosen for hosting these twenty matches which will take place from September 29 to October 3.
The importance of warm up matches can be understood in terms of acquiantance with the cricketing environment and as a last opportunity to understand your game and evaluate what will the right way going forward. Teams that have never played in India will definitely find out how the pitch behaves and then they can enhance their preparation about it.
The first warmup match of the tournament will be played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Guwahati. On the same day, New Zealand will face Pakistan in Hyderabad and Afghanistan will face South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram.
The defending champions England will be facing India in their first warmup match in Guwahati on September 30, then two days later they will face Bangladesh at the same venue. The home side India, after having a clash with England, will play against the Netherlands on October 3.
Australia, too, will face the Netherlands in their first warmup match on September 30 then they will take part in the last match of the warm up games against Pakistan on October 3. The scheduled timing for these matches in 2 PM IST and all teams will be allowed to test their 15 members squad.
