Veteran Afghanistan batter Noor Ali Zadran has announced his retirement from International Cricket. He ended his illustrious career after playing in 51 ODIs & 23 T20Is. His debut came back in 2009 while his last match came earlier in Match when he featured in a one-off Test against Ireland which ended in Afghanistan losing the clash.
A Glimpse of Noor Ali Zadran Career Achievements
Noor Ali has scored 1216 runs at an average of 24.81 in ODIs followed by 597 runs at 27.13 in T20Is. Both his Tests came in one month – he played Sri Lanka in Colombo in early February before the game against Ireland in Abu Dhabi later in the month; he scored 117 runs across four innings.
Soon he called a call-up in Afghanistan’s T20I squad for the Asian Games 2023 after having last played for them in the ODI World Cup 2019. At the Asian Games, he smashed 51 & 39 runs against Sri Lanka & Pakistan. Afghanistan defeated both teams to reach the finals against India. It ended in no result because of rain & India automatically awarded a gold medal for being the highest-ranked team.
Noor Ali was part of a team that played Afghanistan’s first Official ODI in April 2009 against Scotland in Benoni. During that fixture, he scored a 28-ball 45 runs in an 89-run win for his team. Noor played his first T20I in February 2010 & was Afghanistan’s second match in this format.
His career highlight was smashing a fifty against India at the T20 World Cup in 2010 which was Afghanistan’s first World Cup appearance. He was also a part of the team that defeated Zimbabwe in the first round of the T20 World Cup in 2016.
Afghanistan to feature in T20 World Cup 2024
After displaying a spectacular show in the ODI World Cup 2023, Afghanistan will aim to show a similar show in the T20 World Cup 2024 which will begin in June this year. Afghanistan will be a part of Group C in the T20 World Cup 2024. They will be placed along with Uganda, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and the West Indies in Group C.
