The BCCI wanted Ashish Nehra as head coach for the T20I format following the t20 World Cup 2024 beginning next year. But much to BCCI surprise Ashish Nehra refused their offer as per a report in a leading portal. Looking at Nehra’s reluctance to take up the head coach responsibility, the BCCI has offered an extension of contract to Rahul Dravid. The T20 Word Cup 2024 will be played in the USA and West Indies from June next year.
Nehra has impressed one & all as the head coach of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League for the last two years. In their debut season he guided Titans to their maiden title win & the following year Titans were the finalist along with CSK who won the 2023 season under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
Gautam Gambhir appreciated Dravid Contract Extension
Former India Opener player, Gautam Gambhir has applauded the contract extension of Dravid as team India’s head coach & thinks that it is a good news for the Indian team with T20 World cup standing next door.
The BCCI on Wednesday has announced the extension of Dravid’s contract. Along with Dravid the board has also announced the extension of contract for the support staff of Indian team. Dravid’s second stint with India will be the tour of South Africa from December 10 which will have three ODIs & t20is & two Tests. The Test series will begin from December 26 following that India will play five match Test series against England at home. After the conclusion of Test series India will participate in the ICC T20 World Cup in June in West Indies/USA.
Rahul Dravid support staff too accepts Contracts Extension
Gambhir expects team India to continue its domination & continue playing good cricket. The former opener emphasize on the fact that the T20 format is different & will be challenging. He hope that Rahul & hi staff could tackle the challenges & help India to end their title drought.
Meanwhile Batting Coach Vikram Rathore, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will continue their stint with the Indian team as BCCI has also extended their contracts. Earlier Rahul Dravid had replaced Shastri after a dismal show in the ICC T20 World Cup campaign in 2021, which saw India exit in the Super 12 stage. He was appointed as head Coach for a period of two years which ended up with hosts becoming runners-up in the ODI World Cup 2023.
