24-year-old Afghanistan batter, Naveen-Ul-Haq has announced his retirement after the conclusion of ODI World Cup 2023. The tournament will be the last ODI fixture for the prolific batter. The retirement is no less than a shock for cricket enthusiasts as the Afghan cricketer is just 24 years old. Naveen-Ul-Haq took to Instagram to announce his decision to retire.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank @afghanistancricketboard. And all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” wrote the Afghanistan pacer.
Naveen-Ul-Haq said that he has taken the shocking decision to retire at the age of 24 but he will continue to play in T20I format. As per the reports, Naveen has decided to retire from the ODI format to concentrate on his T20I career. He received a call-up for the World Cup squad which begins on October 5. Notably, he was not a member of the Afghanistan team that featured at the Asia Cup 2023.
