Just a day after Sarfaraz Khan got his dream call up in the national side for the Test matches against England at home ground his brother Musheer Khan turned heads around by smashing a century & becoming the leading run-scorer in the ICC Under 19 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday (January 30).
New Zealand Captain, Oscar Jackson won the toss & opted to bowl first against India in their first fixture of the Super Six stage of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Tuesday. Musheer Khan made a point that India is leading in the series by scoring his second ton in the U19 World Cup in just 109 balls with 10 fours & a six.
When did Musheer Khan hit a Century in the U19 World Cup 2024?
The prolific rising star batter came in to bat in the fifth over of the fixture when India was 28-1. Star opener Arshin Kulkarni went back to the hut after scoring 9 runs & India was in a spot of bother. Then came Musheer on the field who controlled the innings along with opener Adarsh Singh & put a 77-run stand for the second wicket to remove India from a state of bother. After Adarsh’s dismissal in the 18th over, Musheer took time to build his innings by playing patiently. He was facing constant blows from the Kiwis but he didn’t give up & faced them patiently. And then he reaped the fruit of his resilience by registering his maiden 100 in 109 balls in an innings embellished with a four & a six.
After registering his maiden ton Musheer shifted gears & started hitting big shots making the innings more special for him. His innings ended at 131 off 126 balls in an innings braced with 13 fours & 3 sixes on his name.
Musheer’s brother Sarfaraz who received his maiden call-up in the New Zealand Test also praised Musheer for his rewarding knock & said that he considers Musheer better than himself.
“He’s (Musheer) a better batter than me. I’m not saying this because he’s my brother. Sometimes, I may be struggling but watching his technique and trying to work out what he’s doing would give me confidence. His mannerisms, and bat flow are very good. Sometimes when I’m not batting well, I look at him and learn,” Sarfaraz told ESPNcricinfo.

Musheer’s stunning knock helped him to become the leading run-scorer at the U19 World Cup 2024. Musheer had 194 runs on his name after playing 3 matches in the tournament and with his 100 in the ongoing game, surpassed Pakistan’s Shahzaib Khan, who had 223 runs.
Musheer’s father was overwhelmed with both of his son’s achievements. He said in a recent interview that he is joyous about the selection of his son Sarfaraz to the Indian test team. While he also applauded Musheer for his hard work & efforts in the Indian team’s success.
India’s Position in the U19 Men’s World Cup 2024
India ended the group stage staying unbeaten & was first in Group A standings. On the other hand, New Zealand lost one match against Pakistan & ended second in Group D. India’s U19 team is a force to reckon with & are favorite to win the coveted trophy once again.
