McGregor claims fighting Chandler in December

McGregor claims fighting Chandler in December

Conor McGregor hasn’t fought a single bout since his leg injury in the fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021. Now it is expected that he will clash with fellow Ultimate Fighter 31 coach Michael Chandler in the next bout. Recently, in an interview with TalkSport, the former two-division Champion stated that he is planning to return before the end of 2023, and in December he will be fighting against Chandler. “I just have to grab him by the chest and smack him. That’s what I want to do, said McGregor.

The Notorious wants to make a comeback in December, but this will certainly raise some questions because he has yet to be drug tested as part of the UFC’s anti-doping program this year. According to the rules of the testing program administered by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, Fighters who are out of the pool but remain under UFC contract must pass at least six months of testing before competing again.

The six-month period can be declined with a waiver, but this has only happened once in 2016, when UFC partnered with USADA and former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was allowed to compete at UFC 200. The beast was tested positive for a banned substance, and hence his win against Mark Hunt was nullified to a no contest, and he faced a one-year suspension for the infraction.

If Mystic Mac is indeed going to fight in December, the UFC would have to offer him a savings waiver just like Lesner to skip the mandatory test. Whether McGregor fights before the end of 2023 or not, he has his future figured out, and Chandler will be his first opponent in the three major matches. Conor said ” Chandler in December, then Justin Gaethje, and then we will do Nate Diaz”.

McGregor has recently spent a lot of time calling out for a fight against Gaethje, right after he won the match against Poirier at UFC 291 via knockout. Although now he wants Chandler first, he hasn’t forgotten about the final showdown with Justin Gaethje. The matchup against Diaz is also something that has been talked about since they split the two bouts in 2016. In the first fight, Diaz stunned the world with a rear-naked choke submission to defeat The Irish star in the second round, but Conor got his revenge in a rematch with a majority decision.
