Matthew Wade to Lead Australia in T20I Series Against India
Australia is gearing up for an exciting Twenty20 tour of India in November and December, with Matthew Wade set to captain the squad. However, the team will be missing several senior players, including Mitch Marsh, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, who will be returning home after the Cricket World Cup.
Australia’s T20 squad for the upcoming tour of India will see absence of some of its key players. Mitch Marsh, who recently captained the T20 side during their tour of South Africa, will be one of the senior players missing from the lineup. In addition to Marsh, the team will also be without test captain Pat Cummins, all-rounder Cameron Green, and fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
These players will return to Australia after their World Cup commitments to prepare for a three-test series against Pakistan, commencing on December 14 in Perth. The absence of these experienced players presents both challenges and opportunities for the Australian team.

An Experienced Squad with a Mix of Newcomers
Despite the absence of several key players, the Australian team remains optimistic about their upcoming tour of India. The squad is described as “experienced,” with a blend of players who have already tasted international cricket success and newcomers looking to make their mark in the T20 format.
George Bailey, the chair of selectors, expressed confidence in the squad, stating, “Matthew has captained the team previously, is a leader in the group, and we look forward to him taking the reins for this series. It’s always a great challenge to take on India on their home soil.”
Many members of the squad have previous experience of playing in India, including eight members of the current ODI World Cup squad. This knowledge of Indian conditions could prove crucial in their performance during the upcoming series. Additionally, young talent like Tanveer Sangha, currently a travelling reserve, will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience.
Continuity for Some, Return for Others
Several players from the World Cup squad will remain in India after the tournament to participate in the T20 series. These include Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa. Moreover, star players David Warner and Steve Smith, who missed the South African T20 series, have been selected for the India tour.
Their inclusion is expected to strengthen the Australian lineup and provide a balance between experience and youth. With Warner and Smith back in action, the team hopes to build on their recent success against South Africa, where they secured a 3-0 series victory.
Ashton Agar Unavailable Due to Injury
Unfortunately, spinner Ashton Agar will not be part of the squad due to injury. Agar has been a key player for Australia in T20 cricket, and his absence will be felt. The team will need to rely on other spin options to fill this gap and maintain a well-rounded squad for the India tour.
The upcoming T20 series in India is set to be a thrilling contest, with the first match scheduled for November 23 in Visakhapatnam. The series will conclude on December 3 in Hyderabad. Last time these two sides came head-to-head in India, Australia won the 2 match T20I series comfortably with Glenn Maxwell hitting a remarkable century in Bengaluru to finish the series 2-0 in Australia’s favour.
