The ODI World Cup 2023 is only two months away. All the teams have already started to fix what is broken in order to bring their A team to one of the biggest sports tournament at world stage. There is a lot of talk venues of ODI World Cup, because every team wants to play on a familiar surface.
In year 2019, only 8 venues had the opportunity to host ODI World Cup matches, cricket grounds around England and Wales. This time around, there will be 10 cricket grounds hosting in total 48 matches. Sounds amazing, isn’t it. You can always count on fans to make their presence visible when it comes to cricket matches being played in India.
The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 will kick off from October 5, 2023 with the first match being played between finalists of 2019 World Cup, New Zealand and England, at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India will face Australia in its first World Cup encounter at Chena Chennai.

1) Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
One of the biggest cricket venues in the world will host the inaugural match of the ODI World Cup 2023. During IPL 2023, this stadium saw the commencement and culmination of the league. Truly an iconic stadium with a capacity of inhabiting around 100,000 cricket fans.

2) Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
This iconic stadium is operated by Karnataka Cricket Association. Being one of the oldest match hosting grounds in India, this stadium really gets electric and is known for producing high scoring encounters. One can go back and remember the iconic match between Ireland and England, where the underdogs defeated England in 2011 World Cup, Neil O’Brien scored the fastest World Cup century at that time.
India has never lost a world cup match at the venue, however, their match against England in 2011 World Cup at this venue resulted in a tie.

3) M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
The second oldest stadium in the country has seen many historic games. The first ever Ranji Trophy match was played at this venue in 1934, India registered its first win against Australia in test at this venue in 1952. Also, Saeed Anwar hit 194 against India in 1997. This stadium has quite big square boundaries.
In World Cup matches, teams will prefer to bat first at this venue because defending has been quite easy here. Australia has never lost a World Cup match at this venue.

4) Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Delhi
Previously known as Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, this venue first hosted an ODI match in 1982. Since then, whenever India has hosted a World Cup, this venue has hosted matches. The good thing for Indian fans is that Indian team has been undefeated at this venue for last 15 years.
Amongst visiting teams, only England has been able to register three wins at this venue. As recent records suggest, chasing is the way to go here and with small boundaries and chances of due, that record gets definite factual support.

5) HPCA Stadium, Dharmshala
Probably the newest stadium to host a World Cup match, this ground is an absolute beauty. The picturesque view with range of mountains in the background, there’s only few stadiums like that in this world. This ground is known for producing runfests. In 2011, Adam Gilchrist hit a century at this venue while playing for Kings eleven Punjab.
Because of high altitude, the ball tends to travel at this venue. No ODI World Cup matches have taken place at this venue, but we have seen some competitive matches here so it is going to be a perfect spectacle of a game at this ground.

6) Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad
Another stadium that hasn’t hosted a World Cup match before. This stadium is homeground of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL and Andhra team in Ranji Trophy. Only in last decade, this venue was renovated and since then 7 ODIs have been played at this venue.
The Indian cricket team will be playing no matches at this group in men’s ODI World Cup 2023. Generally, it’s a high scoring ground and teams that bat first often go on to win the match.

7) The Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Here comes the oldest cricket stadium in India, built in 1864, and owned by Eastern Command of the Indian Army. This cricket stadium is called “Mecca” of “Indian cricket” for a reason. No other venue has witnessed more cricket matches in India than the Eden Gardens.
The Eden Gardens hosted 1987 Cricket World Cup final then in 2016, it hosted final of the Men’s T20 World Cup between England and West Indies. In total, 6 ODI World Cup matches have been played at this ground and there are countless stats and records, hard to mention them all here.

8) BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
Opened in 2017, Ekana stadium is set to bring a World Cup match in uttar pradesh for local cricket fans. Nothing is much known about this ground, but in IPL, we saw a below standard pitch being used for games. In 2019, Shai Hope scored a century at this ground against Afghanistan, other than that, Rohit Sharma hit 61 balls 111 against West Indies at this venue in 2018. Hopefully, we get to see some cracking encounters at this ground in men’s ODI World Cup 2023.

9) Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
Wankhede stadium is probably the most famous cricket ground in India. Who can forget the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka, that was the most memorable and historic sporting moment in history of Indian sports. The pitch of this ground has red soil which makes the conditions favorable to batters. One must remember that South Africa scored 438 runs in an ODI match at this venue against the home side.
6 ODI World Cup matches have been played at this venue and chasing side has won only two times. India won the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka at this venue, but before that, they had lost to England in 87′ World Cup and to Australia in 96′ World Cup at the same venue.

3) Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune
The MCA Stadium was built in 2012 and it was designed by English architect Michael Hopkins. A beautiful open stadium which will host a World Cup for the first time in 2023. This stadium was soaked in controversy a few years back when a pitch curator was caught malfunctioning the pitch in a sting operation.
Also, the ICC rated the pitch used in 2017 test match between India and Australia as below standard. However, that doesn’t take out the beauty of this venue. Indian cricket superstar has two centuries to his name in ODIs at this ground.

These are the 10 venues that will host Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023. There are some stadiums that couldn’t get the opportunity like Mohali Stadium and Sawai Man Singh stadium.
