KKR IPL 2024 Squad: Kolkata Knight Riders is one of the best teams in the Indian Premier League in terms of team strength & players. But despite boasting of a settled lineup they failed to qualify for the playoff stage of IPL 2022 & 2023. Forgetting the past KKR decided to make a new start in the upcoming season of the league. They decided to end their rifts with Gautam Gambhir & get him back to the teams as the mentor for the upcoming edition of the league.
On his arrival, the franchise made some bold decisions. They released players like Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, and Shakib Al Hasan so that they can rebuild their lineup & get some big names to their kitty.
KKR made a smart move by picking Mitchell Starc
During the IPL 2024 auction, KKR entered the process with the third largest purse. They were not shy of spending a huge sum of money as they wanted to build a strong lineup that could guide them to the IPL 2024 trophy. For the initial part of the first three sets KKR was going slow but the moment Mitchell Starc came up for the bid process they broke the bank & signed the prolific player for a massive 24.75 crore. He had a fallout with KKR but the management settled the dispute with the prolific cricketer & went for the player giving their majority of the purse for him.
KKR further bolstered its lineup by getting the services of Chetan Sakariya in the pace department. The franchise tried to get in West Indies player Rovman Powell but lost the bid to Rajasthan Royals. The franchise also tried to get England’s all-rounder Chris Woakes but due to budget restrictions, they back out. KKR was in dire need of a wicket-keeper batter & they fulfilled that by buying the services of KS Bharat for 50 lakhs. However, Starc’s signing left a huge effect on KKR’s purse as they were left with little amount to spend. But still, Kolkata Knight Riders made a smart move by buying the services of Shrefane Rutherford, Manish Pandey, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
