BCCI secretary Jay Shah has dismissed all the reports stating that the second phase of IPL 2024 would take place outside of India. The schedule for the first 21 matches had, earlier, been released by the BCCI. The Board didn’t reveal the dates of the entire tournament due to general elections taking place during the same window.
BCCI waited for the election dates before revealing the schedule for the remainder of the tournament. On Saturday, the Election Commission of India released the dates for the polls, which are set to be conducted in seven phases from 19th April to June 4. Amidst this, a lot of reports floated around the tournament shifting to UAE.
In a report by Cricbuzz, it has now been revealed that the entire tournament will take place in India itself.
“No, it won’t be moved overseas,” Jay Shah told Cricbuzz.
The 2024 IPL season will kick start with a blockbuster encounter between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 22nd March 2024.
Shreyas Iyer departs for KKR For IPL 2024
Meanwhile, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer has left to join his teammates at Kolkata Knight Riders. In a video uploaded by the KKR franchise on its Twitter handle, Iyer could be seen receiving a heart-warming send-off from his parents.
Earlier, there were reports about Iyer missing the first half of the tournament due to his back injury. The Kolkata Knight Riders felt discomfort in his back during day 3 of the Ranji Trophy final between Mumbai and Vidarbha.
He didn’t take the field on day 4 and day 5 of the match and tensions grew in the KKR camp because of the same. However, scans showed no significant issues and the 29-year-old was cleared to play from the start of the season.
Besides, with the return of Gautam Gambhir as mentor, Kolkata Knight Riders would count themselves as a contender to win this year’s IPL. They have won the trophy twice in 2012 and 2014 editions of the tournament and both came under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.
Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 23rd March 2024 on Saturday.
