The IPL 2024 auction has come to an end as all the franchises have finalized their squads for the upcoming season. The Australian duo of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc has been the story of this auction.
Starc, Cummins Bag Big Prizes in IPL 2024 Auction
The Australian captain became the first cricketer in the IPL history to breach the 20-crore mark. He was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crores and, thus, became the costliest player in the IPL 2024 auction.
However, it didn’t take a lot of time for that record to be broken as Mitchell Starc’s bid crossed all the expectations. The fast bowler put his name in the auction pool after nine years but little did he know that he would become the most expensive player in the history of the IPL.
Kolkata Knight Riders broke their bank to buy the Australian fast bowler for a record price of INR 24.75 crore. Daryl Mitchell was the third costliest player at the auction as CSK roped him for just 14 crore.
Chennai Super Kings would be happy to have bought the likes of Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur at bargain prices of 1.80 crore and 3.20 crore, respectively. Australian opener Travis Head went to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 6.8 crore. The franchise also managed to buy the services of Wanindu Hasaranga for INR 1.5 crore.
Delhi Capitals too had most of the boxes ticked. They managed to include Harry Brook in their batting line-up for a price of 4 crore. In the bowling department, they have got Jhye Richardson for INR 5 crores.
Punjab Kings’ most expensive buy came in the form of Harshal Patel, who was bought for INR 11.75 crores at the IPL 2024 auction. Another notable acquisition was Chris Woakes, who was bought for 4.20 crore. Manish Pandey, who went unsold in the first round, has gone back to his previous franchise i.e. Kolkata Knight Riders.
