IPL 2024: Abhishek Sharma say his fav batter is Travis Head

In the current IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) gave Mumbai Indians (MI) a batting masterclass on March 27. With a massive score of 277/3, the hosts achieved the greatest total in IPL history. The tone of the innings was established by Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) and Travis Head (62 off 24), who combined for a scorching 68 runs in only 3.4 overs.

The youthful Abhishek couldn’t contain his admiration for his Australian companion during the news conference held after the match. Abhishek added, “When Travis Head and I were batting together. Among my favourite batters is him. It was fun to bat alongside him.”

From ball one, Head and Abhishek sent the MI bowlers to the dry cleaners. Head got things going with a bang, hitting the fastest fifty ever for SRH at the time with an 18-ball. Then, not to be outdone, Abhishek blasted his way to a half-century off of 16 balls, setting a new record for SRH.

“To be really honest, I had no idea that it was SRH’s fastest fifty. All I wanted to do was go out and be myself. I discovered when I was outside that it was the fastest. Of course, I also had fun with it,” he said.

The attack got underway in the third over when Kwena Maphaka’s over yielded 22 runs. Head hit 20 of those runs, including two enormous sixes and two boundaries, to turn the tide decisively in favour of SRH. Young Abhishek took over at that point and destroyed the MI bowlers all throughout the park.

By the time they were both out of the game in the eleventh over, SRH was comfortably up at 161/3. Heinrich Klaasen (80* off 34) and Aiden Markram (42*) carried on the attack to help SRH reach their record total.

Even with a determined response by MI’s Tilak Varma (64 off 34), the visitors finished with 246/5, 31 runs short of the mark. Speaking of the captain’s and coaching staff’s backing, “The message was quite basic at the meeting we had before the match. Simply go forth and convey who you are. Because the captain and coach are sending a very positive message in that regard. It was essentially the same for this match as well. Simply go forward and express yourself,” he said in closing.
