ENG vs IND 2024: India and England are set to go head to head in a five-match Test series starting Thursday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. England are coming on the back of a 2-2 draw in the Ashes series against Australia. On the other hand, India also drew the two-match Test series against South Africa 1-1.
England last toured India for a Test series in 2021. The two teams locked horns in a four-match Test series. England stunned everyone after winning the first Test by a big margin of 227 runs. However, Virat Kohli and Co. fought back and went on to win the next three Test matches, thereby, winning the series 3-1.
England also visited India in the 2020-21 tour and dealt with a 3-1 loss in the four-match series. On the other hand, India last visited England for a Test series on the 2018 tour. England won the first two Tests comfortably but India fought back with a 203-run win in the third Test.
However, England dominated in the next two Tests as the score line read 4-1 in favour of England, in the end. Over the years, the two nations have been involved in many riveting Test series.
India vs England Head to Head in Tests
The two nations have played as many as 131 Tests against each other in the history of Test cricket. England leads the head-to-head record by a 50-31 margin in Test Cricket. As many as 50 Test matches have ended in draws.
Of these, England have managed to win 36 Test matches at home and also emerged victorious in 14 Tests in India. India, on the other hand, has won 22 Test matches at home and nine in England.
The two nations have played 35 Test series between each other, of which England won 19 and India won 11. Five series have resulted in draws.
Joe Root is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the runs tally for England vs India in Test matches. He has 2526 runs to his name at 63.15 only behind Sachin Tendulkar in the list.
The first Test match of the five-match series is slated to take place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday. Virat Kohli has pulled out of the first two Test matches due to personal reasons. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is yet to announce the replacement for the same.
