WTC Standings: Team India built on the lead in the World Test Championship (WTC) Standings after beating England by an innings and 64 runs in the fifth Test on Saturday in Dharamsala.
With that win, they strengthened their position at the top of the tally with six wins in nine matches. They earned 12 points from that win and took their tally to 74 overall. Rohit Sharma and Co. now boast of a point percentage of 68.51.
On the other hand, England find themselves in the eighth spot in the standing. In 10 matches played in the current World Test Championship cycle, England has only accumulated three wins in 10 games with a point percentage of 17.50.
New Zealand are sitting at second with three wins in five games and has a point percentage of 60.00. With seven wins in 11 matches, Australia are at third and have a point percentage of 59.09.
At number four and five are Bangladesh and Pakistan, respectively. Bangladesh have secured a solitary win in two games played thus far. On the other hand, Pakistan have two wins in five matches.
West Indies have only secured one win in four games and have a point percentage of 33.33. Meanwhile, the bottom two spots are currently occupied by the likes of England and Sri Lanka.
India Extend Lead In WTC Standings after 5th Test win vs England
The Indian team handed England a 4-1 thrashing in the five-match series after beating them by an innings and 64 runs in the fifth and final Test match.
India began the final day of the fifth Test match at 473 for 8 with two wickets in hand. They could only add four runs to the score as England took both wickets quickly.
Despite that, England had a huge deficit of 259 runs as they started their second innings. Playing his 100th Test, Ravichandran Ashwin showed his mettle as England surrendered to his array of tricks. He picked a five-for and reduced England to 113 for 6 in 26.4 overs.
Joe Root was the only player who looked good at the crease. He played a terrific knock of 84 off 128 balls but didn’t have enough support on the other hand. In the end, England were bowled out for just 195 runs.
IND vs ENG 5th Test Brief Scores
IND 477 (Gill 110, Rohit 103, Bashir 5/173) beat ENG 218 (Crawley 79, Kuldeep 5/72, Ashwin 4/51) and 195 (Root 84, Bairstow 39, Ashwin 5/77) by an innings and 64 runs.
